    Description

This is a charming Renaissance silver-gilt devotional amulet, dating to the early 17th century. The partial-gilt and elaborate frame is intricately constructed with fine filigree. The case has four separate covers, each opening to reveal a hand-painted devotional image, in Verre églomisé. The first is an image of Saint Barbara, shown holding a tower and crowned. The second image is of Saint Teresa of Ávila, the third Holy Face of Jesus with tools of his crucifixion. The fourth opening reveals a paper insert and is sadly missing the original image. The object is of excellent quality and would have been purchased on a pilgrimage or visit to Rome.
